New look training tutorials

TRAINING PROGRAMME EVALUATION

A year ago, NHS Choices introduced a training website and workshops for intermediaries to learn how to use the site with clients. 3,000 intermediaries have been trained so far. The aim of the evaluation was to look at how well received the site and workshops were; how those who have taken part have used the site with clients; and to identify areas of improvement.

Some of the key findings were:

· Following the training, two-thirds of those who did the training have used the site with the public, with an average of five times per user

· Overall, the online training videos and tutorials were said to be either good or excellent and acted as an enabler to ‘do their job better’

· Amongst those who use Choices with the public, the main reason for doing so was to provide medical information such as long-term conditions, finding services or information about healthy living

· When asked to describe the impact of this information on clients – feedback was common to five main areas – empowerment, choice, better information, prevention and convenience.

The Inclusion and Training team would like to thank all those who took the time to complete the online survey and telephone interviews for the evaluation. With this input we are able to get a comprehensive view of what works well and where we can improve. Your feedback was also important for us to get an idea of how you are using the NHS Choices website in your day-to-day work.

Where criticism did exist, it was mainly as a result of access difficulties including videos not opening, slow running or ‘video freeze’. Unfortunately, in many cases, these problems are down to organisational IT issues and out of date software. However, we are currently reviewing how we can reduce the impact of these problems.

Award winners...

The Digital Inclusion team are happy to announce that they have been selected as the winner of the National E Well-being Award for Reaching the Digitally Excluded. The Libraries Inclusion Programme was chosen by the Race Online 2012 team, who were impressed with the use of existing resources to challenge social and digital health inequalities. They commented that the premise of providing people with information and access to better health information was simple and brilliant!

Silver Surfer Day in Hackney Age UK

The Silver Surfers at the Hackney Age UK event today were introduced to the NHS Choices website for the first time and loved it!! We were delighted that instead of being interested in illnesses and other such boring stuff, they were eager to look at getting fit, good food, and better sex for the over 60s!!!!

More events are being held all over the country - get at least one person online and see how it can change their lives!!
